Spring is in the air for Borderlands Growth Deal

In last week’s Spring Statement, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced up to £345m of investment in the borderlands area of the North of England and South of Scotland.  This fresh funding was confirmed from the UK and Scottish Governments and is intended to unlock further investment, support local economic growth and new jobs into an area spanning five cross-border Local Authorities.

Through the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal, this unique Partnership commits to supporting four key place-based projects and six key programmes: Borderlands Digital, Borderlands Energy Investment Company, Destination Borderlands, Quality of Place, Knowledge Exchange Networks and Business Infrastructure Programmes.

This strategy-led approach reflects the character of the Borderlands and provides clarity on how these projects will help this strategically important area of the UK grow.  Hatch Regeneris worked with the Borderlands Partnership and a range of stakeholders to develop the case for intervention and provide vital input into the bid to help secure this funding.

Notes: The Borderlands Growth Deal is the first to span the border between England and Scotland. The Borderlands area covers 9,000 square miles (10% of the UK land mass) and is home to 1.1 million people. The area has strategically important growth potential, provides a vital north-south connection, and is an important destination for visitors and investment.
