Regeneris To Help UK Paper Industry Work Out A Deal With Government

We are really pleased to have just been given the green light by the Confederation of Paper Industries to help the team there generate a set of headline insights around which a deal with government can be shaped. This initiative is part of the wider Industrial Strategy process that the government launched at the start of 2017 and, for Regeneris, builds on the work we did with the Ceramics sector earlier this year on their sector deal. Our team will be running a survey of paper industry businesses, facilitating consultation workshops and undertaking interviews with senior industry figures.

Paper is an important sector which has made strides to reduce its environmental footprint and secure productivity improvements:

  • Over 70% of the fibres used in the UK industry are from recycled paper.
  • UK Papermaking Industry reduced energy needed by 34% per tonne of paper made.
  • Over 50% of energy used in EU paper mills is from renewable resources.
  • The Paper Industry has reduced water usage by 24% per tonne of paper made.

We will be working with the sector to identify how it can build on these achievements and work with government to boost investment, create more jobs and enhance the overall competitiveness of UK industry.
