The university is the sixth largest in the country and has a strong presence in the city of Preston. It plays an important role supplying high level skills in the region, widening participation, collaborating with local businesses and helping to achieve local economic development priorities. The university wanted to know the scale of its economic and social contribution locally and regionally.
Regeneris assessed the range of economic and social contributions the university makes to Lancashire and the North West. We analysed a wide range of data in order to model impacts arising from direct activities and purchasing from suppliers, as well as the spending of its staff, students and visitors. Our team also examined the university’s contribution to local skills and the employability of students, and we explored the wider impacts arising from its research, enterprise, innovation, business support, community development and widening participation activities.
The Regeneris study is being used to support the university’s growth plans, including the implementation of the £200 million masterplan for its Preston campus. The report can be viewed here
The University of Central Lancashire commissioned the study to inform its role as an anchor institution within Preston and the wider region. Regeneris were selected due to their expertise in producing similar studies for other large organisations and their excellent reputation within local economic development. The consultancy team worked with people from ‘all corners’ of the university to provide a comprehensive report on our activities and impacts. Their report highlighted the importance of the University to the regional economy and underlined its role as a financial powerhouse in Lancashire. The information is being used to inform our work with key partners, such as the Lancashire Local Enterprise Partnership, and is supporting the development of our multi-million pound investment in the development of the campus masterplan in Preston.
