Measuring The Impacts Of The 2017 Uk City Of Culture Programme In Hull

Regeneris has been appointed by the University of Hull alongside Dr Tom Fleming and Dr Beatriz Garcia to undertake a year-long programme evaluation of Hull’s UK City of Culture year 2017.  We will be measuring factors such as: whether the programme has boosted the arts and cultural life of the city, enhanced Hull’s reputation across the UK, created new jobs, and improved the personal health and happiness of residents.

Hull’s planned programme for 2017 is highly ambitious, featuring 365 days of programmed activity, widespread community involvement and embedded plans for long term development of the arts and cultural offer, building audiences and sustainably increasing visitor numbers to the city.  As only the second city to hold the UK City of Culture prize, organisations in Hull are also keen to develop a delivery model that future bidding cities can learn from.

We will be leading on the evaluation of outcomes and we will work alongside the University of Hull to deliver the process evaluation.  Our work will include an interim evaluation in the spring of 2017 as well as a final evaluation of the programme in early 2018. We will also be working closely with Hull UK City of Culture 2017, the cultural company set up to deliver the programme in 2017, throughout the process.

This evaluation builds on our strong track record of studies for the arts and cultural sector, including our recent analyses of the economic and social impact of the Tate and Plus Tate galleries. It also builds on our work for the University of the Arts in London, developing the business case for the London Centre for Music and more recently analysing the socio-economic impacts of National Museums Liverpool.
