Creative Enterprise Zone announcement: Hatch Regeneris successfully support 5 out of 6 new zones

The Mayor of London has announced six new Mayoral Creative Enterprise Zones (CEZs). The zones, each with their own distinct focus will enhance and grow already established areas of specialisms. They will share £11m of funding  to create more than 3,500 new jobs and 1,000 new education, training and job opportunities for local residents.  In addition, new planning policies will be introduced to support the retention of creative business that are affordable, and the development of a stronger platform to engage people in creative careers.

Hatch Regeneris has a long history of researching and developing proposals to support creative and cultural activity. Building on our work to develop the feasibility study for London’s first Creative Enterprise Zone at Blackhorse Lane, Hatch Regeneris provided research and support to five of the six successful Mayoral CEZs.

In Hackney Wick and Fish Island, and in Deptford and New Cross, we led on new research and partner consultations to develop detailed action plans which were submitted to support each area’s case for investment. Plans for these areas focussed on the need to protect embryonic growth businesses as well as capitalising on developing innovation and knowledge assets. In both cases we were supported by our regular collaborators We Made That and Tom Fleming Creative Consultancy.

In Tottenham and in Croydon, we again worked with We Made That to map hidden creative hotspots across the respective boroughs. We developed an action plan which looked at the role the creative sector could play in placemaking and how to encourage greater participation in London’s creative workforce.

In Brixton, we provided evidence and support for the Brixton Economic Action Plan on innovative projects such as Pop Brixton and International House. We also provided new evidence on the relative importance of Brixton’s Creative Economy, all to support their CEZ bid.

We are delighted that these distinct areas have, with our support, successfully leverage the funding to grow their unique offerings within their respective localities.

Hatch Regeneris are now focussing on finalising the case for investment for the Thames Estuary Production Corridor. A major new creative led Economic Strategy jointly being proposed by GLA and South East LEP.
