perception abnormalities&#8221;)\/ or neglect:<\/p><ul><li>Inattention to their limb (may simply turn their head away or totally ignore their limb)<\/li><li>Hiding their limb<\/li><li>Inactivity of one limb in usually bilateral activities<\/li><li>Protecting\/carrying the limb<\/li><li>Reluctance to cross midline<\/li><li>Apprehension to touch<\/li><li>Increased expectation of pain<\/li><li>Use of negative language towards their limb<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"topic__text__copy\">However some patients do not show these features, therefore, in all cases ask your patient:<\/p><p class=\"topic__text__copy\">&#8220;How do you feel about your limb?&#8221;. Encourage the patient to say whatever they feel, explain to them that whatever they say is fine, however strange it may sound. You may have to prompt them by asking about size differences, swelling, length etc. as they often don\u2019t want to vocalize things that don\u2019t appear to make sense<\/li><li>Ask them to describe their elbow, as above.\u00a0 Does it feel the same as the other side?<\/li><li>Ask them to describe their wrist.\u00a0 Does it feel the same as the other side?<\/li><li>Ask them if the distance between their shoulder, elbow, wrist, is it the same on both sides?<\/li><li>Ask them about each individual digit and the whole hand<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p class=\"topic__text__copy\">Compare with the affected side encouraging the patient to recognise what feels normal and what is altered.<\/p><p class=\"topic__text__copy\">Some patients feel happier drawing their body and how it feels to them.
